Today’s Black History Month LGBT+ hero nomination comes from one of our allies, Norfolk and Waveney Mind… We nominate Labi Siffre for his inspirational music and particularly the words of (Something Inside) So Strong. This is a universal anthem for anyone feeling on the outside and struggling with their wounding and the injustice inflicted by others. “I remember hearing it at a mental health survivors’ conference nearly 20 years ago,” remarks Ruth Taylor, Mindfulness and Social Development Manager at Norfolk and Waveney Mind. “It was played at the start and the end as a kind of meditation. It was honestly one of the most unexpectedly moving ways to unite people of all kinds at that type of an event. We were connected by our shared experience of trauma, grief and hope. It was fantastic.”
