Today’s Black History Month LGBT+ hero is the poet Dean Atta, nominated by Shell, one of our Trustees. Shell says ….. I’ve just read Dean’s first novel “The Black Flamingo” which is utterly gorgeous and won the Stonewall Book Award. Written in verse, it’s the story of Michael, a mixed-race gay teenager, coming out and finding his voice as a drag artist. Dean’s writing is exquisite – I would love us to bring him to Norwich for the Pride celebrations sometime. I was so happy to find some films online of Dean performing extracts from the novel. I attach a link to a poem called “How to come out as gay”
