We were delighted to receive a cheque from EPIC Norfolk for £1260 as a result of their #RunWithPride event. EPIC Norfolk were due to organise the Norwich Pride 5K in July this year, but like Norwich Pride and other events, it had to be cancelled due to Covid-19.
Steven Hitcham, Director of EPIC Norfolk says:
“As an organisation that thrives to support communities being more active, we still wanted to organise something for the LGBT+ community. So we created #RunWithPride, a virtual event where participants could choose to complete 5, 10, 25, 50 or even 100 kilometres during July through walking or running. Over 500 people entered and we raised over £2,500 to be granted to LGBT+ charities, half of which we’ve donated to Norwich Pride as part of the agreement from the initial event.”
EPIC Norfolk’s social media platforms (@runwithprideuk on Facebook and Instagram) filled up with hundreds of colourful photos during July of participants from around the country walking and running for Pride. Next year, EPIC Norfolk plan to host #RunWithPride during June and the Norwich Pride 5K in Eaton Park on Sunday 1st August.
“We were so pleased to still be able to support and fundraise for Norwich Pride this year and look forward to continue to do so for many years to come through these annual events.”
Robert George, Fundraising Lead at Norwich Pride says:
“We are so proud and grateful to everyone who took part in EPIC Norfolk’s #RunWithPride. It was hard not having our usual, wonderful celebrations in the city centre, so it was fantastic to see photos of people out on the streets running with pride. It’s been a difficult year and we know physical exercise is great for people’s mental health so it was the perfect way to do something for Norwich Pride, and raise much-needed funding to keep next year’s celebrations free and accessible for all. Thank you EPIC Norfolk for your fabulous support”
