Dugald is a gay New Zealand/British artist working on solo, collaborative and commissioned pieces in both fine arts and performance. His painting exhibits the strong influence of the South Pacific shown through his treatment of light and colour.
Home/Boy includes an eclectic selection of his work curated to portray a utopian ideal of domesticity. The intense colour and composition are constantly undermined by the crude use of object, homo-eroticism in appropriated sports imagery and a sense of frenetic action in small confined spaces using paint, collage, model making and a dose of sexual repression. From vibrant still lives of flowers built with the compromised bodies of sportsmen to a murky lily pond's writhing mass of inhabitants just registering on the surface, all the pieces are invested with a strong sense of movement and energy.
Dugald's approach to painting experiments with deconstruction of shape, use of patterning and bold mark-making in order to create a tension between the illusion of a picture and the technique through which it is produced. With influences including Grecian sexual imagery, David Hockney, rugby, Robert Maplethorpe and the Wizard of Oz - Home/ Boy is a Gay exhibition exploding style, home-life and bunches of flowers.

Artists Statement
This children's story was written as a way of healing the grief felt by the loss of my parents and brother who all passed within a short space of time. The main characters are based on them and also my early childhood translated into a fantasy setting. I really enjoyed writing the book and painting the artwork and I hope it gives you the same pleasure. I am at the Forum on Saturday 25th July for the Norwich Pride and will be happy to sign any copies of the book. The prints on display here are for sale and are a limited edition as they have not been sold outside of the book anywhere else.

"In 1988 an act was passed that prevented homosexuality being discussed positively in schools, it was known as section 28. In the legislation gay families were referred to as 'pretend families'. The law was eventually repealed in 2003.
As a celebration of norwich pride, artist Helen Simpson put out a call for families of any description to be photographed and record in 50 words what familiy means to them.
What you see in the exhibition is individuals of all orientations with partners, relatives, friends, children and pets. Enjoy!"

Introduction by Krystal De-Kanta. New Digital Restoration, (15)
Director: Stephan Elliott. Starring: Terence Stamp, Hugo Weaving, Guy Pearce, Bill Hunter. Australia 1994. 104 mins.
An outrageously camp musical comedy in which three Sydney showgirls with problems - Felicia, Mitzi and Bernadette - are invited to play a four week cabaret engagement at a resort hotel in Alice Springs, in the middle of Australia's red desert. It seems like the perfect opportunity to leave their troubles behind them, at least for a while, but the trip is not as straightforward as it seems. Felicia and Mitzi are drag queens and Bernadette is a transsexual, and meeting a man in a dress in the outback is not a normal occurrence. Naming the bus they are to travel in Priscilla, and cramming her with a gaudy assortment of frocks and stilettos, they set off with music blaring in the direction of Alice Springs. Along the way they break down, dress up, perform in unlikely places and encounter hilarity, hostility, incomprehension and acceptance.
Freshly baked scones, amazing meringues, delicately cut sandwiches, delicious lemon drizzle cake. £7.50 per person. Must be booked in advance from The Tea Lounge or Shelly Telly.
Karaoke at the Catherine Wheel. Burger van from 8pm

Director: Heather Tobin. Starring Hannah Hogan, Tracy Rae, Shaughnessy Redden. Canada 2008. 109 mins.

Growing up with a mother that believes homosexuality is a sin it's no wonder Jess buried her true feelings and married her high school sweetheart fresh after graduation. Yet she's unable to keep away from the charming Casey and the two young women embark on an affair, discovering what it means to truly love someone. A grim, gritty South London housing estate makes an unlikley setting for a romantic fairy-tale, but Hetti MacDonald's gay teenage love story all but brings it off. Adapted by screenwriter Jonathan Harvey from his own stage play, Beautiful Thing tells how teenage loner Jamie falls for next-door neighbour Ste, one of the tough kids who bullies him at school. Amazingly, he finds his feelings reciprocated, and the two progress to a tender, tentative affair. Sidestepping conventional notions of working-class homophobia, the film succeeds in presenting its central relationship not as anything startlingly different, but simply as a teenage romance--with all the joy and heartbreak it implies--that happens to be between two 15-year-old guys. Problems of brutality and deprivation are acknowledged but never allowed to dominate, and under the influence of love even the harsh walkways and terraces of the estate take on a sunlit glow.
The film will be introduced by the Chair of the Norwich Pride Collective, Nick O'Brien
An evening of classy tunes from DJ 78 and DJ Hilly - DJ 78 plays, well, 78rpm discs, mostly swing, early rock'n'roll, and such - but for this event he promises to mix it up a bit and play a bit of everything from the '20s til the present day (when did you last see gramophones next to normal record decks?) Hilly plays 7" singles, predominantly soul, Motown and disco. She will be delivering a 'high camp' set... making for a really 'up', party atmosphere. Balloon guru Mandy of Balloozles will also make an appearance, making risque and silly balloon models for partygoers.
Then there'll be a stall with Pride merchandise and (of course) bi resources. At midnight there'll be the big announcement that it's the beginning of Bi Day itself (we're celebrating a day early because we're like that). So: 8pm - 12:30am, 22nd Sept, and best of all... FREE ENTRY!

Jonathan Caouette's spellbinding debut TARNATION reimagines the whole idea of what a documentary can be. Caouette has been documenting his life since he was eleven-years-old and with TARNATION weaves a psychedelic whirlwind of snapshots, Super-8 home movies, answering machine messages, video diaries, early short films, snippets of 80's pop culture and dramatic re-enactments to create an epic portrait of an American family torn apart by dysfunction and reunited through the power of love. The film begins in 2003 as Caouette learns of his mother's lithium overdose. Faced with the haunting remnants of his past, including a family legacy of mental illness, abuse, and neglect, Caouette returns him to his native Texas to aid his mother's recovery. Slipping back into the archives of his youth, we watch Caouette grow up on camera, seeking escape from family trauma through musical theatre, Grade B horror flicks and the forging of his identity through popular culture. A raw and sensual display of self-destruction and rebirth, TARNATION – imagine CAPTURING THE FRIEDMAN'S filtered through the sensibility of Paul Morrissey – announces the arrival of an exceptional new cinematic visionary.
The film will be introduced by poet Vince Laws: 'I found his honesty totally arresting. He is candid about his views, his sexuality, his beliefs, himself, and the world as he sees it.' Stash Kirkbride, Triangle Magazine, Oct 2009

10,000 people are gathering in Trafalgar Square in a Silent Candle-lit Vigil (see below) and the organisers have invited people around the world to join them to light candles of hope and observe the two minutes silence, preferably at 9pm GMT.
A Silent Candle-lit vigil against All Hate-Crime in the Heart of London, Trafalgar Square 8pm to 10pm Friday 30th October 2009
To show the world that this criminal behaviour is unacceptable here.
To stand shoulder to shoulder to stop this happening again.
On Friday 25th September 2009, Ian Baynham, 62, and his friend were subjected to homophobic abuse in Trafalgar Square, London. When Ian challenged this unacceptable behaviour he was assaulted by three youths: two women and a man. He later died of his injuries on 13th October.
On Sunday 25 Ocotber, James Parkes, 22, an off-duty trainee police officer, was set upon by a group of up to 20 teenagers in the heart of the gay quarter of Liverpool. James was with his partner, another man and a woman when he was attacked. One of his companions was punched in the face. James is now fighting for his life with multiple skull fractures and other injuries.
Ian and James are sadly not alone; They are two among thousands of people who have been victims of hate crime.
People from all communities are invited to come together on Friday 30th October to stand up and say that Hate Crime is unacceptable and that we will no longer tolerate it.
The vigil, which has received high-profile support and will be hosted by Sandi Toksvig, will include speakers from a wide cross section of the community, and musical contributions from a mass choir bringing together members of the LGBT choir of London, Brighton and Hove, Birmingham and Manchester as well as the London Gay Symphonic Winds.
Those unable to attend the event in person, wherever they are in the world, are invited to light candles of hope and observe the two minutes silence, preferably at 9pm GMT.
The vigil, in Trafalgar Square, will start at 8pm and will last 2 hours.
A website (www.17-24-30.com) and Facebook event have been created for the occasion as well as a Twitter account.
Donations can be made here on PayPal or via a dedicated bank account (Sort Code 40-03-22 Account 41446843).
Cud u tell ur coming out story in 140 CHARACTERS or less?
Norwich Pride are looking for 140 CHARACTERS to tell us their coming out stories in 140 CHARACTERS or less (a "tweet" on Twitter) for an Interactive Show at the Forum in January 2010. We want LGBT people to tell us what it was like coming out for them and families and friends to let us hear their side of the story too. In this workshop you can turn your microstory into a 12 second micromovie. The workshop leaders are Community Filmmaker Shelly Telly and Poet/Artist Vince Laws.
This Month's OUT AT THE MOVIES at Cinema City is a series of short films called "Here Come the Girls" on Thursday 10th December at 8pm. Here's some info:
Nine up-and-coming and established female filmmakers bring you a refreshing variety of shorts that look at all aspects of lesbian life and love, from contemporary scenarios of mistaken identity and bedroom hang-ups to period pieces concerning secret rendezvous and forbidden relationships. Sobering issues such as racial stereotypes and domestic violence are also touched upon, as are tales of wistful romance and teenage friendships boiling over into sexual desire.
We'll have live music in the bar at 8pm from multi-talented Maddi Cassell who was a huge hit at the Pride Comedy Night and Pride Picnic in Chapelfield Gardens.
The films will be introduced at 8.30pm by Linda Bellos - best remembered as an activist and leader of Lambeth council in the 1980s, Linda now lives in Norfolk and is a Director of Diversity Solutions Consultancy Ltd.
For some it's been a painful experience. For others it's been liberating. Coming out as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans (LGBT) can be a huge hurdle for a lot of people.
| “Every LGBT person has at least one great Coming Out story,” says Michelle Savage, chair of the Norwich Pride Collective. “It might be about when they first fell in love, or when they told their parents. Some people faced rejection, others got loving support” An interactive show at Fusion in the Forum captures both negative and positive experiences. Norwich Pride invited 140 people to tell their “Coming Out” stories in 140 CHARACTERS or less - a “tweet” on the popular social networking site Twitter. | ![]() |
Some examples of the stories are:
“ I wasn't very out at work. Then I got cancer. People wanted to know I was loved and had support so I told them. It was a gr8 feeling.”
“I came out as bisexual to my parents when I was 16. They said 'go to your room'”
A team of LGBT filmmakers have turned the stories into micromovies lasting just 12 seconds long. Poet/Artist Vince Laws, says:
“We have been overwhelmed by the honesty, creativity and humour with which people have told their tales. There's sad stories, happy stories, romances and adventures. We're proud that 140 CHARACTERS captures the huge variety of people's experiences.”
The 140 CHARACTERS project is a partnership between Norwich Pride, the Forum, the Writers Centre and local community filmmaker Shelly Telly.
You can read all the stories online at www.twitter.com/OUT140
This delightful and heart-warming romantic comedy follows the lives and loves of three gay couples living in London's swinging Soho, hanging on for dear life through the thrills and chills of their respective relationships.
Alex, a struggling actor, has found love and security with upper-class reality TV producer Harry. Art dealer William, trying to juggle the demands of his precocious nine-year-old daughter, is falling head over heels for soap actor Lawrence. And professional artist Tom clings to his hustler-in-residence, Lars, who barely even bothers to feign fidelity. At the centre of them all is queen bee Louise, worried that her latest boytoy might be a little too comfortable with her gaggle of gay male friends. When the gang comes together at a hilariously disastrous dinner party, pent-up tensions force the couples out of their comfort zones and into deeper waters. To keep their relationships afloat, they have to ditch the drama and find their way back to happiness.
Sophisticated, sexy, snappy, and stylish, MR. RIGHT is a real find. (Seattle Lesbian and Gay Film Festival 2009)
We're pleased to announce that the film will be introduced Richard Hilton, talented new stand-up comic from Lowestoft - a hit at the Norwich Pride 2009 Comedy Night.

This event on Saturday 30 January aims to bring people together and promote unity and anti-racist and anti-homophobic behaviour through music and dance. This follows in the tradition of the Rock Against Racism events in the 1970s and the more recent Love Music Hate Racism Carnivals that have taken place around the UK. LGBTs have had a chequered past in the local and national press. How we are represented matters. It affects how our lives and reputations are communicated to others. Using press cuttings from the past 50 years, recollections and opinion from those attending and in discussion with a local journalist, LGBT representation in the press will be considered. The session will be informal and interactive, all welcome.
A plea for reform of England's anti-sodomy statutes, this film pits Melville Farr (Dirk Bogarde), a married lawyer, against a blackmailer who has photos of Farr engaging in sexual liaisons with other men.
Farr tracks down other gay men being extorted for money from the same blackmailer, one of whom commits suicide. The well-educated police Detective Inspector Harris (John Barrie) considers the sodomy law nothing more than an aid to blackmailers, and helps Farr in calling his blackmailer's bluff. The movie, far ahead of its time, ends with Farr and his wife coming to terms with his homosexuality after the public exposure he faces in the blackmailer's trial.
Director: Basil Dearden. Starring: Dirk Bogarde, Sylvia Syms, Dennis Price. UK 1961. 96 mins.
We're delighted that the film will be introduced by Dugald Ferguson, a gay New Zealand/British artist working on solo, collaborative and commissioned pieces in both fine arts and performance. His painting exhibits the strong influence of the South Pacific shown through his treatment of light and colour whilst aspects of design are often applied springing out of his inspiration from Maori Art. He is currently working with images of sportsmen. Dugald is also co-founder of the Live Art/ Performance Collective 'Living Structures' that create large scale immersive environments of activated installation.
[Note added post-event: introduced by Nick O'Brien - thanks to Nick for an informative intro and for stepping in as Dugald Ferguson was unable to make it.]
Cost: Ticket prices vary.

Barbara Ross is the founder of the Norfolk based Gender Identity Services (GIS).
We are delighted that the much-loved Barbara Ross is taking part in our amazing LGBT History Month celebrations. You can read some blurb about Barbara below but the only thing you really need to know is that she is fabulous and has done brilliant work with people with gender dysphoria in Norfolk for many years.
We wondered about the best way to involve Barbara and decided that a Tea Party in Norwich's loveliest cafe the Tea Lounge would be the perfect setting.
So this is what will happen. You will be served an assortment of freshly baked scones, amazing meringues, delicately cut sandwiches and delicious homemade cakes.
Barbara will then do a short presentation about her work and answer any questions.
It's a simple, sweet format and we hope you can make it.
We've got a special LGBT History Month deal on the price - it's just £5 (usual price for Afternoon Tea is £8.95)
Only catch is that we need to know by 5pm on Thursday 18th February if you want to come. You can book your place by calling the Tea Lounge on 01603 619728
About Barbara Ross
Having worked in the field of Gender Dysphoria for over 35 years Barbara has witnessed the gradual shift in attitudes by society and medical professionals leading to an increased acceptance of both the validity and enormity of the challenges faced by the Gender Dysphoric individual.
Whilst improved social and medical insight is by no means wholescale, it hopefully indicates that the blanket prejudice once faced by those with gender related issues is finally being addressed.
Ultimately, however, it is the individual who has to come to terms with who they are, irrespective of society's views and it is this reconciliation that is the primary aim of GIS.
| Lecturers: Lecturers: Richard Beard, Drusilla Marland. This event is on Facebook Richard Beard (Creative Writing alumnus) and Drusilla Marland talk about Richard's book "Becoming Drusilla: One Life, Two Friends, Three Genders" Richard Beard, who studied creative writing at UEA in 1994, wrote "Becoming Drusilla: One Life, Two Friends, Three Genders" in 2008. It is the story of his friend Dru Marland's gender transition and also of Richard's reaction to it. | ![]() |
From Richard's introduction:
"Once upon a time, not so long ago, I used to go on yearly camping trips with a friend of mine called Drew. We'd spend a few days walking or cycling, maybe a bit of canoeing, and spend the evenings in a pub and the nights in a tent. These trips were regular but unplanned – if we both had a few days free we'd pack a couple of rucksacks with gear that was never quite up to the task and simply set off. Straight-forward and manly stuff. Until one year Drew thought there was something I ought to know.
"I think it's fair to say that initially I didn't react to Dru's news in a way that would have been approved by the commission for gender equality. Then gradually I came to see Dru as she is, far from the stereotypes usually associated with the transsexual story.
"Becoming Drusilla is the story of how Drew became Dru, of what happened to our friendship, and our adventures in wildest Wales the first time we went camping as man and woman. Nothing went quite according to plan."

Due to circumstances beyond our control, the Living Library has been cancelled - or postponed cos we'd love to do it for Norwich Pride. Members of the Norwich Pride Collective will be available in the Tea Lounge from 3-5pm in case anyone turns up. So if you fancy a cuppa and want to treat yourself to a slice of delicious homemade cake, pop by and say hi.
Here's the info about the Living Library for future reference.....
Have you always wanted to ask someone from the LGBT community a question but felt a bit shy? Have you gone to the library to find answers? Now you can do both, by borrowing a 'book' from the human 'LGBT Living Library'.
During the event you will be able to borrow human books and ask them about their lives.
This is a great way to meet new people, challenge you current way of thinking and generally enjoy yourself.
As an individual you can learn about different peoples lives, as an organization your staff may feel differently about certain groups of people having actually met 'someone like that'
Living libraries are a fun way of challenging prejudice. All are welcome what ever their sexual orientation.
Poet and artist Vince Laws will be there... you can buy him a mug of Earl Grey and a cake at the Tea Lounge on Thursday 25th when he is one of the range of 'books' you can borrow from the Living Library.
Cost: Entrance free.

| Poet and artist Vince Laws is performing a 15 minute poetry play, The Small Frayed Knot, live on Future Radio on Sunday 28th February, as part of the Platform arts show, from 5pm. Listen online at Future Radio or tune in to 96.9FM. 'Mr Laws writes in bold and unadorned language of difficult and complex emotions, of love and joy, pride and loss and anger. Drawing on a tradition of 'confessional poetry', his work is unsparing, unsentimental, and resolutely avoids mawkishness while never ducking or hiding from the uncomfortable issues -- the difficulties of living with HIV, for example, or of making his way in the world as a proud, gay man -- that he tackles head on.' Mark Bond-Webster, Host, Norfolk New Writers' Forum / Future Radio 'His work sometimes deals with deeply personal and painfully political subject-matter but his stage presence is so warm, genuine and witty that it made the journey a pleasure for this audience member.' | Derek Jarman's treatment of the 17th-century painter Caravaggio is typically iconoclastic. Adopting the most extreme 'art is life' stance, Jarman conflates the painter's imagined gay affair with his model Ranuccio with the content of his greatest works. Mixing period sets and anachronistic details, it allows acclaimed cinematographer Christopher Hobbs to compose several stunning tableux vivants which artfully mimic the colours, textures and materials of the artists's paintings. |
| We're delighted to welcome Marcus Dickey Horley, Curator of Access and Special Projects at the Tate Modern, to introduce this screening, which has been programmed in conjunction with Norwich LGBT Pride (as always) and also the Sainsbury Centre for the Visual Arts whose exhibition 'The Artist's Studio' runs until 31 May 2010. Sainsbury Centre Friends can buy Members' rate tickets for this screening by showing their SCVA Friend's Card at the cinema box office. Advance sales are unusually strong for this event and we're in screen 3 as normal so if you're thinking of coming along then now would be a good time to book your ticket; it's a terrific movie so don't risk getting caught out. | ![]() |

"Sensitively acted and broodingly directed"
Hailed as a landmark in gay cinema, this pioneering film is a fascinating record of the gay scene in London in the late '70s. After the end of his workday, staid schoolteacher Jim explores the discos and secret meeting places of London's gay underground, unable to reconcile his sexual identity with the rest of his life – until the strain of living a lie threatens to take its toll. “A sensitively acted and broodingly directed mediation on the day-to-day and night-by-night realities of the gay scene in London.” (Village Voice). What does it mean to have to choose your gender? Alex is outwardly a normal 15 year-old girl but is, in fact, intersex and has physical characteristics of both genders. To protect their child, Alex's parents have moved from Buenos Aires to a remote coastal area. Her mother invites old friends to visit, but it soon becomes clear she has a shocking ulterior motive in doing so. When they arrive with their awkward 16-year-old son, all of Alex's repressed emotions break out. Winner of the International Critic's Week Grand Prize, XXY is a delicate, subtle film that explores a little-known issue without sensationalising it. Introduced by Natasha Curson, a staff developer at UEA who has written for the Guardian on transgender issues. | ![]() |

Introduced by George Pearce, Chair of Norfolk Constabulary Independent Advisory Group. The most successful French film of the 1970s, based on a long-running boulevard farce which went on to enjoy an '80s afterlife as a Broadway musical. Gay cabaret owners Renato and Albin are persuaded by Renato's son (the product of a fleeting heterosexual relationship) to act straight in an attempt to pull the wool over the eyes of his fiancee's parents, the epitome of stuffy bourgeois rectitude. Immensely superior to its two sequels. Bookings: www.picturehouses.co.uk or 0871 902 5724 | ![]()

After months of knitting by hundreds of people across Norfolk a giant rainbow scarf is to be hung from the balcony of city hall on Friday afternoon 30 July 2010. Since March this year we have been having 'knit-ins' at pubs, offices and church halls. The progress of the scarf has been followed by over a hundred people on Facebook. We have been receiving squares from all over the world as people's relatives from abroad pitched in to help. There was a target of 1000 squares but there are at least 1500 at the last count. Brainchild of artist Helenofnorwich who asked people to knit a square to show support for Norwich Pride, the scarf is over 30 metres long and all the colours of the rainbow. | ![]() |
'I wanted a way for people from all walks of life to be able to be part of Norwich Pride, the response has been... absolutely amazing. I particularly asked churches to be involved and we have had knitting groups from all over the county busy making squares for the project' The scarf will be carried from St. Gregory's Centre for the Arts, Pottergate at 1pm this Friday to city hall where it will be hung from balcony, then Coucillor Jeremy Hooke will say a few words and Rev Phillip Young from St Thomas church will bless the scarf. After the scarf has been displayed it will be broken up into blankets to be sold and the money given to charity. A massive thank you to all the people with have knitted squares, sewn together blankets, hosted knit ins - thanks to the St. Lawrence Textile Centre on St Benedict's street - and to Anna at the Farm Stores on Magdalen street for being a base for dropping off of squares. This event is on Facebook. |

After a fantastic Pride day, come and relax and stock up with a tasty brunch menu to get you ready for the week ahead. |
After its first successful year last year, Norwich Pride strikes again bigger and bolder. After the official events on Saturday 31st July, this year there's an event with a difference. The creator of Sheffield Pride's hugely successful T'Other Stage has turned her hand to livening up her hometown with the Pride Punk Picnic on Sunday 1st August. The aim is to show that Pride isn't just about boy bands and Radio 1, and that Pride celebrations outside the big cities can be diverse and exciting. We will be showcasing some of the Divine Diversity in the community, as well as having a whole lotta fun on the way. Acts including local grrrl band Compact Pussycat, glam rock bands, cabaret, fire performers and an appearance from Norwich's Alternative Popes (this year a job share between two lesbian mothers!) are planned, along with Fancy pants and Mirkin workshops and loads more. This all day event at the The King Edward VII pub will be host to the more varied entertainment that is the hallmark of T'Other Stage, and aims to prove that Norwich isn't just a provincial town, it rocks! With a large garden and barbecue in the daytime the event is family-friendly midday till 8pm, and a little darker afterwards ………… This event is on Facebook | ![]() Click to download poster (595 x 822; 134 KB) |

Introduced by Michael Fletcher, Hospitality Team Leader, Norwich Pride Collective Featuring many of the hallmarks that have distinguished Neil Jordan's career (milestones include MONA LISA, THE CRYING GAME and END OF THE AFFAIR), BREAKFAST ON PLUTO marries the themes of religion and sexuality with Jordan's characteristic and fearless blend of comedy and high drama. The film follows the exploits of Patrick B...raden (Murphy, BATMAN BEGINS), an endearing but deceptively tough young man. Abandoned as a baby in a small Irish town and aware from a very early age that he is somehow different, Patrick survives in his harsh environment through his wit and charm, plus a sweet refusal to let anyone change who he is. Complementing Murphy's scintillating turn in the central role, Jordan regulars, including Rea and Gleeson, offer delightful cameo support. Director: Neil Jordan. Starring: Cillian Murphy, Liam Neeson, Stephen Rea, Brendan Gleeson. UK 2005. 129 mins. Stewards' Party and then Post-Pride Parties FOR EVERYONE! We started a tradition last year of having a post-Pride party to say thanks to our volunteer Stewards. Last year it was in FUSION where the Pride film was showing; this year it's at the Norwich Arts Centre where OUT140 is on. This year, we're also extending the evening so more people can get involved - we're hearing from facebook that lots of people have got the post-Pride blues so this is an opportunity to get together one more time before we have our break and chill out for a couple of months. So the plan for Thursday is Stewards' Party at the Arts Centre from 5-7pm. This is just for the Stewards, Pride Collective and anyone who worked on the day. We're providing a light buffet of cakes and sandwiches to line our stomachs. We're also going to buy the first round at the bar. | ![]() |
At 7pm we'll move onto Henry's who joined the Norwich Pride family this year. From this point onwards, anyone can come along and join the party. Henry's have kindly given us this offer: "We are able to offer you 20% discount from the main menu for anyone in your party. Please be aware that due to the possible number of people coming there may be some waits and the food will have to come out in stages (A pre-order for this would make it a lot easier if at all possible) Alternatively we do currently have an offer where you can choose 3mezzes and get a bottle of selected wine for £25 (this can not be discounted further unfortunately because it is promotional already) We can offer you £1.50 off cocktails and selected bottles of wine at £10 At 9pm, we'll head over to The Catherine Wheel, St Augustine's Street to round off the evening. We've booked a small buffet with Dawn and Bernice at 10pm in case anyone's got the munchies. At 12pm, The Catherine Wheel closes and we have one last toast to Norwich Pride 2010! Dawn from The Catherine Wheel says: - Can you let me know if any of you have any dietary requirements for the buffet - You can access the pub and our car park via Oak St (where The Talk is) and then up Sussex Street Hope you can make at least part of the evening - it would be lovely to see you. This event is on Facebook. |

Part of the London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival on Tour The first of three touring highlights from the 24th BFI London Lesbian & Gay Film Festival shows at Cinema City on Sunday 8 August. Set against the backdrop of a nation grappling with violent homophobic crime and offering a scathing examination of the underlying hatred for gays rampant in Caribbean societies, Bahamian Kareem Mortimer's debut narrative feature tells the stories of three very different individuals: | ![]() ![]() |
Lena, the conservative, deeply religious wife of a secretly gay firebrand pastor; Romeo, a handsome young black man hiding his sexuality from his close-knit and loving family; and Jonny, the conflicted and creatively-blocked white artist in search of himself. All three head for the spectacularly beautiful and tranquil island of Eleuthera, each with a different reason for escaping current circumstances. Soon, their disparate worlds collide in unexpected and affecting ways. This uncommon portrayal of love, loneliness, tolerance, secrets and self-acceptance takes viewers on a poignant multifaceted journey that is enlightening, courageous, and disquieting all at the same time, and which shocks to the very core with its startling conclusion. We had a great session at St Gregory's with Jenny Chamberlin and Jo Richardson from the County Council in the week leading up to Norwich Pride. About 20 people came along to hear the results of their consultation with over 350 LGBT people about what it's like to be LGBT in Norfolk today. Several people facebooked us to say they would have loved to have gone to the meeting but couldn't because of work commitments so we have arran...ged another one for Wednesday 11th August, 5-7pm at the Arts Centre. Don't worry if you can't get there dead-on 5pm - it's a fairly relaxed and chatty meeting. Tea/Coffee and Cake and OUT140 exhibition will be provided. Cost: Free. This event is on Facebook. | ![]() |

Here's some info about Stephanie Anderson, our choir leader: "I specialise in leading workshops in unaccompanied harmony singing for people with all levels of musical experience - including people who believe they can't sing. I aim to make workshops informal and fun, while focusing on enabling people to make fantastic, exhilarating sounds together. I also run two community choirs in north-east Norfolk: Vocal Chords, and Trinity Broads Singers." We meet fortnightly for rehearsals on Thursday evenings from 7-9pm. Cost £5 or £3 concessions.
